Running out of ideas for your family home evening activity this week? Wanting to do something other than board games and movie nights? It may seem like there is not much to do in the small town of Rexburg, but don’t be fooled! I’ve compiled a list of 27 Fun Family Home Evening Activities in Rexburg that you can do with your FHE family.
From past experience of going to FHE activities to being an FHE leader, I have learned that the best and most memorable adventures don’t need to cost much and happen in unexpected places.
Knowing that Rexburg experiences extremely cold and hot weather, I’ve come up with a variety of activities that are perfect in the fall, winter, spring, summer, or all of the above. Included are also some great places to grab a bite with your FHE family.
Indoor FHE Activities
- Discount Movies at Paramount 5 Theater
This theater may be small but they offer big deals. Come to Paramount 5 on Tuesdays for $5 movies.
- FatCats Entertainment Center
FatCats is your first choice if you want endless fun! Attractions include movies, bowling, arcade games, and glow golf.
- Walmart Scavenger Hunt
Who says Walmart is only for grocery shopping? It is a great place to do a scavenger hunt. Create a list of things to find, set a time limit, and then split into teams to try to find those items.
- Rexburg Re-Escape
If you are wanting a challenge, escape rooms are your best choice and promote team work.
- Gravity Factory Rexburg
Jump sky-high on trampolines or dive into foam pits! Don’t forget to challenge your FHE group to a game of dodgeball. May the best team win!
- Museum of Rexburg
This museum contains artifacts and stories that will teach about the history of Rexburg. Learn more about the amazing place you live in!
- Deseret Industries (Thrift Store) Dress Up
Choose a unique outfit at the DI for each other to dress up in and then wear it to the next FHE activity and have a photoshoot!
- BYU-Idaho Recreational Events
BYU-I offers many different activities such as roller skating, volunteer/service opportunities, sports, concerts, and more! Outdoor Family Home Evening Activities
- Sand Dunes, S’mores, and Sledding
The Sand Dunes are the perfect place to have fun in any season! In the summer, enjoy a bonfire and some s’mores. In the winter, go sledding down the dunes. At nighttime, bring your blankets and stargaze.
- BYU-Idaho Apple Orchards
During September and October, the orchards at BYU-I are open for all to pick some fresh apples! After picking your apples, make delicious desserts like apple crisp, caramel apples or apple pie.
- Cress Creek Nature Trail
This is a great place for an easy hike. Be surrounded by sagebrush grass, juniper bushes, and a beautiful view of Snake River, farmland, and mountains. Just a quick 20 minute drive from Rexburg.
- Porter Park
The possibilities for fun are endless at Porter Park: have a relaxing picnic, play some frisbee games, or buy a giant bubble kit and blow bubbles.
- Hike R Mountain
Get some more exercise by hiking R Mountain. Sunrise and sunset hikes are very popular. Be aware of small wildlife creatures that can be found on the hillside including but not limited to rattle snakes and deer.
- BYU-Idaho Ropes Course
BYU-Idaho offers a rope course with three levels, zip-lining, a giant swing, and challenging attractions like “Power Pole” and the QuickFlight FreeFall Device. Perfect for team-building activities. Reservations are required, contact the university for more information!
- Rexburg Nature Park
This park has many activities including three ponds, a skate park, walking/bike paths, frisbee golf, pickle ball, and basketball courts. Choose an activity or a few and have a great night at the park!
Food & Treats for Your FHE Group
- Big Jud’s
A must-try in Rexburg! Big Jud’s offers hamburgers, salads, fries, tater tots, and shakes. Try the Big Jud’s challenge, which is to finish a whole meal of a 1lb or 2lb burger with fries and a drink in under 30 minutes. A competitive and delicious FHE activity!
- Blister’s BBQ
Blister’s BBQ is located inside the Mother Hibbards gas station and has been recognized by Food Network as one of the “Top 45 BBQ places Coast to Coast.” They offer a selection of meats such as pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, as well as sandwiches.
- Red 8 Asian Cuisine and Sushi Bar
Come here for delicious Asian food. In my opinion, this restaurant has the best sushi in Rexburg. They also serve Chinese and Thai dishes. If you can go during lunch, they even have lunch specials!
- Pizza Pie Cafe
All-you-can-eat pizza, pasta, and salad! Make sure to try the alfredo pizza and the oreo and cookie dough dessert pizzas. Challenge each other to a pizza-eating contest.
An FHE trip to McDonald’s never gets old. Indulge in an Oreo McFlurry or challenge each other to a chicken nugget eating contest.
- Crispy Cones
Wanting to try something new? Come to Crispy Cones and enjoy a popular Czech dessert: a grilled dough cone rolled in cinnamon sugar and filled with your choice of soft serve ice cream and toppings.
This cute retro themed spot offers different creative soda drinks, hot chocolate, pretzels, cookies and more!
- G’s Dairy Delights
A great small business ice cream shop in Rexburg. They offer ice cream, shakes, as well as grilled cheese sandwiches.
- Karie Anne’s Frozen Desserts Rexburg
Enjoy refreshing Italian ice and custard at Karie Anne’s. They are only open during the spring and summer.
- The Cocoa Lodge
This tiny wooden lodge sells different flavors of hot chocolate such as cheesecake, cinnamon, peanut butter and even bacon! If you’re not a huge hot cocoa fan, options such as hot apple cider, herbal tea, and sweets are available. They are only open during the winter months
- Runnin’ for Sweets Candy Shop
Cadbury from Britain, Guarana Soda from Brazil, Kasugai Gummies from Japan, Milka Chocolate from Switzerland, and more! This candy shop has a variety of sweets from around the world–perfect for doing a taste test challenge.
